Welcome to Mayo Connect. I can understand your anxiety. You definitely do not want a repeat of previous experience.

Have you talked to your surgeon about your concern. Has anyone suggested some anti-anxiety medications prior to and after surgery to help calm you.

Also, have you consider talking to a therapist about this. What your descripting might be considered post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that originate from a medical trauma.

@catyluz, I have added your discussion to the Intensive Care (ICU) Support Group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/intensive-care-icu/

You are not alone in feeling intense emotions after an experience in ICU. It actually has a name called Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). People are talking about it in this discussion:
- Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) - Let's talk https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/post-intensive-care-syndrome-pics-lets-talk/

May I ask what kind of surgery you will be having?
