Gabapentin is strong. It can be taken instead of a narcotic. I took it one morning instead of the night and was sleepy all day. It can be strong. Be careful. Again, live without drugs....
@nursegigi I had gabapentin after my TKR and had no problem with it. I only took at nighttime, before bed, so if it made me sleep that would have been welcome. No problems at all though, and I took it for a very short time.

I was prescribed Gabapentin for back pain just prior to and after my back surgery. I took it for about 3.5 months, but didn't like the side effects from it, (300 mg twice a day), so titrated off it with some difficulty. You do become dependent on it. Once I was off it I realized that my pain was improved. I surmised that the Gabapentin was actually causing some of my pain. Some people are helped by Gabapentin. We're all different in how we do with drugs and whether or not they work for us.
I have been on Gabapentin for about six months now and am experiencing muscle pain that is becoming progressively worse by the day. I am going to check with my neurologist because their are other similar medications, but with, perhaps fewer side effects, such as muscle pain. Best wishes to you.
Does the Cymbalta work ? I take Gaba for nerve pain which does work for me but I can only take 100mg in the evening as it makes me so tired. It doesn't work for the muscle spasm or osteoarthritis. I read that it doesn't work for low back pain but if the nerves are trapped which mine are it does calm that. I have been wondering about Cymbalta. I was a Psych nurse all my working life and it did lift the mood of lots of patients.

I cannot take it in the day either but luckily for me ( I think ) my pain is worse sitting as the nerves in my back get trapped .I just take 100mg around 6pm,I'm in bed for 9pm most nights as I suddenly become weary by then.

It isn't addictive so is safer than Opiods. I can only take 100mg in the eve as it makes me drowsy.
