Severe recurrent blocked nose after Covid
I had covid in April, for the first time. Wasn't very sick but had the most severe blocked nose I've ever experienced...like concrete! Nothing would shift it! I've always suffered from sinus problems, but this keeps coming back since the covid, and I find it vv hard to throw off and struggle to find anything that un-blocks it. I'm unable to have too much in the way of decongestants due to being on blood pressure meds. If anybody has had this blocked nose situation and has any advice I'd be grateful.

I have it too….since covid. Mine is intermittent. Seeing ENT. Also, Have smell/taste disorder.
Use a Netipot and the packets that come with it instead of pills. Follow the instructions .
Also can bring a saucepot to boil , turn off. Breathe steam several minutes. Repeat many times. Can drape towel over your head to retain more steam.
I don’t have any advice for you, but a question. Did you loose your taste and smell with that much inflammation in your sinuses? I’m asking because I contracted Covid back in December of 2022 and as of yet not gotten it back. I also had a very mild case and only had stuffed up sinuses and for that the on-call doctor at my doctor’s office prescribed only steroids for 10 days. I’ve had 4 Stellate Ganglion Block Injections that are suppose to help you get your taste and smell back and so far only a slight improvement in my smell, my taste is basically at 0 accept for the coffee grounds I can smell when I make my coffee in the morning. I find it odd that some people lost their taste and smell and got it back pretty quickly, then there’s me…1 year and 7 months! Needless to say, it’s pretty awful!
Yes I lost taste & smell at the time, but it has come and gone a bit since. If I'm choked up in my nose it's bad, if my nose is ok my taste & smell are ok. I wouldn't say great, but somewhat there. My GP has prescribed a 3 day course of steroid and then a steroid nasal spray to use after that. Hoping that settles the inflammation and helps! Very sorry for your predicament.. and I really trust it comes back for you.
I had covid in December 2020. Since then, one of my lingering symptoms has been sinus problems. They include sinus infections, ear infections, and breathing issues. I have been using a Navage machine to help breakup and remove some of the blockages. Recently my dr added using Simply Saline Nasal Mist to use as many times per day, to keep things flowing. Covid has caused my body to go into overload whenever I have any illness. My last nasal issues caused a double ear infection, sinus infection, and a continuous cough. 2 doses of heavy duty antibiotics finally won out. My ENT has said my scans showed no reason for the constant problems other than Long Covid. He suggested to see and allergist to be treated for my year-round allergies, which should stop the nasal issues which are causing my constant infections. I have an appointment next month with the allergist, so I hope this will help keep me off so many antibiotics all the time.
Some great news! Returned to my ENT today. Last October, he diagnosed me with Post Covid Syndrome due to my low score on my Scent Test. Plus, my constant bitter taste that occurred after Covid. Today, I scored significantly better on the Scent Test! He said it was substantial because it wasn’t just a few points. I could tell he was surprised. I knew that I had been tasting more intensely lately. Food is so delicious! I’m really focusing on avoiding treats and limiting my portion sizes. We discussed if this was the virus ridding itself from my body OR the high dose of Vitamin B12 I went on 6 weeks ago? Hmmmm……..how will I ever know? So…..now I’m wondering if the bitter taste will improve or not……….
I’d take the bitter taste, at least it’s something…good for you!
Yes, as stressful as the constant bitter taste is, I realize that having no taste would be extremely challenging. I try to accept that the bitter taste could be indefinite. I will continue to hope.
My ENT prescribed me a nasal spray for my conjestion, but I haven’t picked it up yet. He said he would not recommend a SG Block injection. He didn’t elaborate. So, I guess I’m on my own. He didn’t refer me to an allergist.

I’d definitely keep up with B12. I had taste issues, bitter and salty, plus other taste distortion. After finally being diagnosed with very low B12, supplementation gradually brought it back to almost normal. It does take time, so don’t give up. This was before I had Covid, so it might be a little different for you. Still, I think it’s worth continuing to see if it’ll bring you back.
Good luck!
Omg! That’s amazing! That must be such a relief! Thank you for letting me know. Do you recall about how long it took for you to have noticeable improvement in your distorted taste? Did any of improvement occur for other symptoms? I had hair loss too, but I’m taking Minoxidil for that.
