Forteo: What is your Experience?

Posted by leeosteo @leeosteo, May 18, 2023

I'm looking for anyone's experience with Forteo. What were your side effects? Were they tolerable? Did you see good gain in bone density? What med did you follow up with to lock in gains?

@njhormung,
as a radiated person with bone marrow edema, I found this article fascinating. Are you considering the function of PTH to control MSC fate or the danger of adipose tissue to bone formation as interesting to Forteo users. I don't want to miss anything. Thanks for the link.

I only scanned the article and saw that it mentioned a limitation with Forteo.

Hi @inam have you tried re-enroll Lilly card? It doesn't appear that they have a limit as long as you have private insurance, not government sponsored ones.

Go to www. Forteo.com, savings and services. Copay is either $0 or $4.

https://therxadvocates.com/ I think you pay a service charge of 70$ a month, then the Forteo is free. So it's actually 70$ a pen.
There is a new generic by Teva approved 11/23. I expect that there isn't much of a price break.
I sometimes travel for my pens because in most countries the cost is 100$ per pen.

It doesn’t work as I have Medicare 😫

Curious--has anyone hopped from Forteo to a generic to take advantage of the limited copay assistance on each? Now that there are three different brands (Forteo, Alvogen, and Teva) of teraparatide, wouldn't it be possible to, for example, take Forteo until the assistance runs out, switch to Alvogen until that assistance runs out, then to Teva until that runs out?

The endocrinologist advising me said that there is no problem switching from Alvogen to Forteo and back. He quickly found a goodrx coupon. But I got my first pens in Singapore at Raffles for $100 each. Columbia, Mexico, Canada the price is 100$ per pen for Eli Lily. RX Advocates has a plan for $80 a month, but I think the income limit is low.

The only reason Lily can charge all US patients inflated prices is because of Medicare Part D. The party of big business agreed to the passage of pharmaceutical assistance for seniors only if Medicare would be prohibited from negotiating prices. The current administration is struggling and has had some success in eliminating that prohibition. Drug prices for all of us in the US are on the ballot in November. Be careful with your vote.

I was able to take Forteo injections for only 6 months with a coupon. The cost was only $4.
But now the coupon has run out and I can't afford the injections anyone!
The only side effect I had with Forteo was increased belly fat. I tolerated the injections really well. I would definitely choose this need over evenity! Those side effects scare me to death! I also have severe osteoporosis and osteo arthritis!
Good luck with your journey!

Yes I did. Thank you! Husband makes too much $. It seems like if you aren't in poverty you can't get Rx help. Very sad!

Thank you for your response to my comment. And yes I did try that, but because my insurance doesn't cover any specialty drugs they wouldn't accept my application for help. 😔
