12:00pm to 1:30pm MT

Description

The Pancreatic Cancer Support Group meets monthly, on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Arizona time (find your time zone).

The GI Oncology Team at Mayo Clinic Arizona offers this monthly Pancreatic Cancer Support Group. We are dedicated to addressing needs related to diagnosis, treatment, the emotional side of cancer and other challenges individuals and their families may face. The goal of the group is to provide education, hope and to meet and support others who are living with Pancreatic Cancer.

A cancer diagnosis may be stressful and scary.  Talking to someone in a similar situation may be helpful.

I had a cousin who recently passed from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She was diagnosed in December, 2023.
Doctors told her she had probably had it for 2-3 years. By coincidence, she was diagnosed a diabetic 3 years ago at the age of 68. I have researched this and there is a rare type of diabetes that ties in with pancreatic cancer, especially considering the fact that her sister passed from the same cancer 17 years ago!
Our family is devastated over this loss. My question is was it possible if her doctors had done a cat scan or something, knowing her family history and that she was quickly losing too much “diabetic diet” weight, would they have found this cancer at an earlier stage that would of been survivable?
