I'm at 10 weeks and don't have a surgery date due to Mri finding another lesion. Now they want another biopsy.I'm probably at 12 to 13 weeks when I finally get surgery.Very frustrating. I'm 76,DCIS hormone pos.2 lumps so far one lymph node.Hope they don't find anything else.Started anastazole today.
Anastrozole is very effective in shrinking ER+ tumor. My PA said during the covid they prescribed Anastrozole because of long wait for surgery. She said in some people (I assume ER+) the tumors shrank substantially.
Hello Everyone!
I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. I am so grateful for the knowledgeable doctors and nurses who treated me. I was diagnosed with DCIS and had a lumpectomy. It was restful to have professional, respectful, and kind caregivers. They found that it was invasive and seemed a bit surprised. So back to surgery, I went. I am very fortunate that they did not find anything in the lymph glands. I had 5 sessions of high-level (whatever that may mean . . .) and I was grateful for not having to drive a 2-hour round trip 5 days a week to receive radiation. My last diagnostic mammogram was clear. I am in my second year of taking Anastrozole and the hot flashes are very hot and long-lasting. My medical oncologist mentioned that there was a new drug for hot flashes but it is contradicted in my case. The only way I can function is by keeping the ambient temperature at 68 degrees and sitting in front of a fan. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to deal with the hot flashes. Towards the end of most hot flashes, I seem to develop a headache which can make me hypersensitive to light, and lightheadedness. Anyone who can share how they coped or are coping with this side effect of Anastrozole will be in my debt. 🙂 Linda
I use portable fans, wear linen cool clothes and use an ice neck wrap. Amazon sells these bandana looking neck wraps that can be wet then frozen. I keep several in the freezer and swap them out.
I am also very lucky to air conditioned car seats which are invaluable!
I too need the room temperature around 67. I also bought a "cooling" blanket also from Amazon.
CVS sells a cooling gel and cooling neck patches. They come in handy when you aren't near a freezer.
I had to take off the mattress protector I had on as it was too hot. I keep a beach towel on top of the mattress pad. I can then wash the towel and sheet and not the mattress pad as much.
This summer has been hot! I walk the dog in the a.m. and spend the rest of the time in air-conditioning.
I just got the GE quiet AC on sale to replace an old noisy one. I also have lots of ceiling fans that help move the AC around the room.
My husband is always freezing, but he can put on a jacket!
I also found my favorite cotton jammies are no longer my friend as they stay wet. I bought a couple of cheap polyester type short night gowns at Walmart the seem to dry quicker.
Thank you @flowergal. I appreciate your suggestions very much. My husband wears a winter hat inside the house because he feels so cold. It is funny to know that it is 95 degrees outside with 90% humidity and to see him in a sweatshirt and hat as soon as he gets cooled down. I will let him know that he is not the only husband who has a hot wife. 😀 😀 😀
May I ask what type of reconstruction you had? Any radiation or tamoxifen?
Did you have the 5 treatments 5 days in a row? I am over 1,000 miles away.
I had them on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Monday and Wednesday the following week. I hope this helps.
Hormone negative so no treatment post surgery. I had over the muscle reconstruction (prepectoral) with silicone implants. No restrictions or pain since my recovery - lipo has worked well but think I will need a second one as left breast didn’t take as much as the right side. Overall happy but have learned with reconstruction it’s always multiple surgeries to get the best outcome.
it does, thank you.
