Diverticulitis
I am currently being treated for my 3rd episode of diverticulitis, only 8 months from my last episode.
Someone told me that he was plagued with it too but was told to try odorless garlic soft gels every day. He said it has really worked for him. Has anyone else had success with this?

Have you been on Cipro and Flagyl?
Yes. I took them both for 10 days. I’m starting to get my appetite back. My GI was not helpful at all. No one talks about the pain here and there after you are treated. Even the internet is not clear. I guess it can take a while for your body to heal fully
No, you need to get another GI provider. I'm a nurse and have collagenous colitis. I had the same GI, having Colonoscopy's every 5 yrs d/t family history of colon cancer. Once diagnosed, care changed. I researched a Doctor who is experienced with my type of colitis, epigastric and belly pain. Also, look at their education. I'm now in good hands. Good Luck!
I agree, the pain will put you down for days. Every episode will wear you out.
For the number of episodes, you have had you need to see colon rectal specialist
It’s been three weeks since onset of symptoms. This weekend my side hurt so bad. But the bowel movements are still erratic. I have to find a balance of carbs and fiber that will appease the IBS. I’m getting a new GI. My current one makes me so anxious. He told me so little of what recovery would be like. So after 3 weeks when the side pain returned I thought the diverticulitis returned. My primary said no. Your gut will be sensitive for a few months. Was that so hard for the GI to say?
That is sad to hear. Find another GI Dr.
Foxj, You have changed your diet, right? No strawberries (small seeds), no unskinned apples, etc.? Changing one's diet is the first thing to try.
Had my 1st bout of diverticulitis in 2021 was good for 2 years then had 3 attacked this year 2024. Watched my diet but nothing helped. My last flare was my first complicated version. Was on work travel and ended up in the ER with a micro perforation. Was admitted on IV antibiotics for 3 days flew home for more hospitalizations and was given a PICC line to administer antibiotics at home and cool down the colon before surgery. Just had surgery on 8/8/24 and am doing pretty well. I had hoped to avoid surgery but it was no longer an option
I’m with you… have never had repeated attacks like many people talk about never ended up in the hospital or IV antibiotics but per colonoscopy in January was diagnosed with severe diverticulosis and have not been able to get back on track since… I’m looking at surgery just to avoid complications in the future. Have tried adjusting diet and going to a naturopath getting natural, anti-inflammatories, etc. but nothing is working!! CAT scan yesterday and only one I’ve ever had just said severe sigmoid diverticulosis…not gonna go away 😫
I hope you mend well. ☺️
It’s kind of a crazy thing, I was scheduled for a planned surgery on 9/4, then in late July all hell broke loose with no rhyme or reason. The last thing anyone wants is to end up with a complicated case. My last 4 weeks was crazy and interestingly I had abscesses that did not show up on multiple CT Scans but they sealed off the micro perforations which was amazingly lucky. My Dr told me my surgery would take 3.5 hours and she was done in 2 which she said was amazing. Loved my Dr and her team and one week out I am feeling pretty good and very lucky
