Good morning!

Going by my proclivities, I definitely take this as humor. I've been sober for more than 30 years, and yet I'm still making wry jokes about the fun of drinking (because, for me, drinking WAS fun, and today, to say that it wasn't, won't change a thing).

So much of growing older is about having to "give up": one year, giving up pleasurable activity such-and-such; the following year, being advised to forego yet another long-enjoyed delight.

The results of several tests I've undergone in recent years have indicated an urgency to "give up" something. To preserve my sanity and sense of self, I've discovered that every time I'm confronted by a need to surrender another of my life's pleasures, I must find a suitable substitute—and to find that suitable substitute pronto!*

*My current sepsis infection has me substitute-searching right now.

I see! Yes, I get it. I made a point to enjoy a glass of Pinot Grigio tonight while dancing to Into The Mystic while preparing dinner! Very enjoyable and I hope to retain the ability to do it for a while yet. I did give up sweets for the most part to help with my weight loss and fitness journey (and manage type I diabetes). That was a wise decision though.

Sure hope your sepsis is better and that you’ve discovered a substitute pleasure!
