@danny5

i find this information interesting. see i had a brother who passed away from Colorectal cancer. we were surprised by this. it was last year at Easter time. none of us new he had it. also nobody else has had cancer. my father died at the age of 52. back in 1973. but from complications from a car accident. we have no idea if he could have had cancer. we also have no idea about his side of the family. his parents died along time ago. no clue about them. so i will check with my PA when i see her. i don't want to take any chances.
HUGS to both of you, danny.

Hi @danny5, Thank you for your HUGS!!! I am sorry to hear about your brother and your dad. You know, most of us do not have much medical information about our family members, particularly the older generations or those who have passed away. But I would encourage you to find out the most you can by asking other family members, friends, and using other means, such as old records.
For instance, do you have any information about your brother's cancer? What type was it? I am pretty sure your brother had genetic testing. Those medical records would be extremely important. In fact, you could get his entire medical record. Was he married? Did he have children? If so, would his wife have his medical records? She may have to give you written permission to get his medical records from a hospital or doctors's office. However, since your brother passed away recently, all of this can be done.
You can be tested as well! Genetic testing is very inexpensive these days and you would be able to find out if you have any genetic mutation you may want to know about. For instance, something that could cause colon cancer.
I was tested, so was my daughter. It was important for her to know if she heredited my genetic variant. She didn't!!
You can get a genetic test that would include all the cancer panel. I had over 60 variants tested. And that cost $299. And that includes the genetic counselor expense who would help you by selecting all the variants and then would explain the results - If you need one.
I used INVITAE: https://www.invitae.com/us/testing-options

Hugs to you Danny!!!
