STOP! Don't do this if you have osteoporosis
I am starting this thread hoping people will post things they've done that they have regretted, for one reason or another, when suffering from osteoporosis.
I'm going to start the conversation with a list of things we've learned already, and we are newbies!
1. Lift objects heavier than recommended by your physician (for my husband, that means nothing heavier than 5 pounds right now, with 3 fractures).
2. Don't bend at the waist! He got a fracture bending to empty the dishwasher.
3. Be cautious when driving - avoid rough roads, bumps, and go very slow over speed bumps.
4. We had planned to go on a boating tour (on a commercial fishing boat) on the ocean. After seeing a boat rocking and bouncing over choppy water we decided not to go.
5. Do not slouch when sitting in a chair or couch. If you're going to rest for any period of time on a couch elevate your legs (per our physical therapist).
6. Do not try any exercises until you have cleared it with your doctor, especially before your doctor confirms your fracture is stable.)
Please add to the discussion. I think this could be useful to people, especially people new to this.

I am very happy that this is working for you! Would also like to know how advanced your osteoporosis is? I have severe osteoporosis with several fractures in ribs and back and was taking forteo injections for 5 months until my coupon for $4 ran out! I can't afford the $4000/month and my husband makes over the limit to receive any financial help for the medication. I have always exercised, ate healthy and took care of my body my whole life. My endocrinologist told me that the cause of my osteoporosis is from the medication for hashimotos. I am also suffering from arthritis and have back pain constantly! Can you specify what supplements you are taking? I currently take medicinal mushrooms, vitamin D with/ K2, calcium (which is problematic for my kidneys), green tea, selenium, & medicinal marijuana.... THC, CBD, CBG for inflamation. Old age is definitely not for sissy's!
If you are on Tymlos or Forteo, don't take too much calcium. I was still trying to get 1200 MG between food and supplements. A 24 hour urine test showed way too much calcium. I cut back on calcium, had another urine test which showed less calcium but still too high. Now I don't take any supplemental calcium and need to have another 24 hr urine test. Osteo wants to take me off Tymlos in fear of kidney stones. I will go off it if my next test still shows too much calcium. Apparently, these medications increase the amount of calcium.
I declined to medications until I could obtain Tymlos, which along with Forteo and Evenity can build new bone, as opposed to just allowing the accumulation of old bone. Medication became necessary once I could not avoid a hip replacement. My bone density scores were -4.9, -5.1 amd -4. I will be tested next month to assess my progress, but I haven't had a fracture.
Let me just add- one can never be sure until one ends up with a fracture or goes under the knife and one’s body e falls apart in the doctors hands. This was my case. Perfect scores (not all bones are created equal) and one’s genetics plays a role for sure.
My tests Texas and labs were perfect…but surgeries began telling a different story over 12 years. I play Ann active role in my self care. I challenge the doctors and professionals, and by Grace I go. Some meds may have caused my situation but those same meds were lifesaving. The doctors offered to take me off the Tymlos but I declined. I know it’s helping and I am watching every 60, 70 something woman I know fall and fracture their shoulders, wrists and ankles. Good luck to everyone!

Laurie, I think your positive attitude is/could be your natural healer 🥰. With that said, it would be quite helpful, if, since you stated your OP was "pretty bad" possibly giving us you DXA score? If it can be tracked back.🤷♀️ So many of us wish we could find, just the right holistic approach, then to find out when we give it our all the actual numbers declined.
Some people may never fracture with OP and some suffer immensely b/c of it.
Thx, for all the info.
HA, as a matter of fact right now I am using on guard toothpaste too. Ohhhh yes, they have many other products. go to Doterra.com and check out all they have, many different oils, nutrition, digestive care, skin care, spa, hair, and womens personal care, and more.
Good luck,
Blessings
Thank you, I don't know how severe my osteoporosis was, (can't find my paperwork) but right now it is in Osteopenia stage. If I hadn't had a DEXA I would not have known I had OP. I never had any pain or fractures, but if I hadn't taken action , I think I would have. Right now I have very bad back pain that keeps me up at night, sciatica on both sides. I have a problem with my L5 S1. I will get up and do some stretches, sometimes they help sometimes not, to help me sleep. I went to see a neurosurgeon (for my back) that was recommended, but when he saw all X-rays and MRI's, he said "forget your back, we have to take care of your cervical first." He replaced 4 cervical disks. They were bulging, had arthritis, and bone spurs. That was the best thing I ever did. It got rid of my migraines, neck and shoulder pain. When I recovered from it I went back to him for my lower back. He said he could do surgery, but didn't recommend it. When I started to go to gym it made it feel better. Now it's bothering me so much I need to do something about it. I just found out about a non-invasive procedure that I'm going to look into. For my osteoporosis I take Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw Calcium, along with more calcium to make up what my doc recommends, along with VitD, I used to take MK-7, but since it got better I dropped the MK7.
I used to have a very physical job that caused many issues with my body. I had tennis and golfers elbow and steroid injection would no longer work. My orthopedic wanted to take out the tendon in my arm. I said ok, let's do it after holidays. In the meantime I was taking Frankincense Essential Oil for inflammation in my body. All recommendations are that you DO NOT ingest it. Well, I did, and I did a few drops under my tongue everyday. In about 3 to 4 weeks my arm quit hurting , (I Was not expecting that) I no longer have to wear a brace. It also helped with my arthritis, my hands and fingers don't hurt and I was able to open jars, etc, with no problem. You can look up and research what the benefits of Frankincense Essential Oil are, it's called the King of Oils. I use Doterra because I trust and believe that it is pure. I think thats about it. I wish you good luck and hope that your health gets better. You are so right, this aging thing is not for Sissy"s....LOL
Blessings
Thank you, I try to have a positive attitude, because if not we will just be miserable. I can't see to find my old records on my OP. Now it is in the Osteopenia stage, on my portal they don't go back that far. so sorry....I just posted big reply to @inam.... that might give you an insight to want I'm dealing with and maybe more info for you.
Blessings
I'm so sorry for the pain you are experiencing. I don't have my DEXA results as they were quite a few years ago, but I am now in the Osteopenia stage. You are so right about the no warning signs. If I had not had the DEXA, I would not have known I had osteoporosis. Bio Identical hormones has been a great help with my estrogen levels and my doc feels that is also another reason for the great improvement in my osteoporosis. Wishing you good health.
