It was simple for me. I never wanted to go through the diagnosis process again, and not have the fear every six months of worrying will this mammo be bad? I also asked what was the quickest way to get away from the medical system. The more I am involved the sicker I get. I have weird reactions to medicine. Double mastectomy was the quickest way to be done. After surgery I had a 3% chance of recurrence, no chemo, no radiation, and no pills. It was my perfect outcome. I opted for reconstruction and having had breast surgery prior I knew there would be very little chance of matching a 56 year old breast to a reconstructed one. Opted to just reconstruct both. Prior to surgery I could not imagine not having breasts. Now I think I could have lived without reconstruction.
