Hello, My gleason is 3+4. I don't want it lingering in my prostate. I was given three options at first. 1. Do nothing 2. Seeds 3. Remove the prostate.
I saw two other urologists. Both suggested focal point. Then I had a mtg. with the oncologist. He left it up to me. He offered focal or hdr/brachytherapy. I'm getting hdr/brach in 2 sessions beginning next week.
Go for a 2nd Pathology opinion of your Biopsy Slides for assurance they did not miss Gleason 4 .
If 4 it may well change your treatment options . 95% plus of 3+3=6 are put on active surviellance . Others select LDR Brachytherapy , without EBRT or ADT . with scheuled regular monitoring .
I have a friend , digonosed at age 55 . On active surviellance for 5 years - currently reviewing other options while he is still in excellent health otherwise .
I had Gleason 6 in 2017. Many times the only reason you need biopsy is to get MRI or to identify cancer. In 2023 MRI found lesion and I did my 2nd biopsy that confirmed Gleason 7 and had a HIFU procedure to remove it and Other Gleason 6 on one side of prostate. Now just active surveillance on the other side with Gleason 6. Some refer to Gleason 6 as cancer, others refer to it as irregular cells.
Find a doctor you really trust . If you can get recommendations from others men you know in your area is a good idea to me. But you have to remember we are not all the same even personality made a difference on a treatment we may do. Some are get it out others are just wait and see. I think once you made a decision you will be happy with it. It seams most men are once a path is chosen. To me decision making is very difficult but for me surgery was not as difficult decision to make as I am a get it out person. I have faith your path will get easier and you will find peace with it.
