Low baseline testostrone and overall survival after treatment

Posted by cheriekhan @cheriekhan, Jul 8 8:28am

My husband has a baseline testosterone of 202. He started ADT and will be doing internal and external radiation for stage 4 A advanced regional prostate cancer. There is a lot of conflicting information of linking low baseline testosterone with aggressive prostate cancer and overall survival after treatment. Any input would be appreciated.

@cheriekhan ,
this is great. You are really doing the reasearch for him. The studies I've seen indicated that the testosterone has to be very, very low 2. 5ng/ml

But find the charts associated with the information you've found. And clue us in.

The peer reviewed studies with control groups with a sample of 2900 patients out there show otherwise especially when it comes to overall survival with multi intervention modalities. Observational studies show there is correlation. Which is why I am asking. But the levels at base line the were considered low prior to any treatment were under 220 T from what I read. But. then this article says 2.5 so I would love to be wrong in this case.

Has he had a Decipher test? And how and where is he doing the radiation. In his situation have they advised antiandrogen.

Decipher is a genetic analysis of the tumor itself. It determines the genetic mutations in the tumor. You want this information without regard to treatment, although it can influence treatment. It will tell you whether his tumor isandrogen active and whether the tumor is aggressive, whether this tumor is likely to metastasize and sometimes tell where it is likely to metastasize to and how good his immune response has been.
The test is done on biopsy material already drawn. So all you have to do is call the doctor and request it.
It can be important to consult more than one Oncology Radiologist.

Ok will ask the doctor. He tested positive for the PALB2 gene mutation. This was my third referral at MSK so we decided to go with them for now. But yes always open to other opinions.
