@health seeker77 I have chronic kidney disease and most osteoporosis drugs are fine for kidneys. Reclast is the one that is problematic. My doc did a low dose with one hour IV hydration, slow infusion and tylenol and my kidneys are fine. Forteo, Tymlos and Evenity do not affect kidneys (though kidney stones are a possibility with the first two, though rare).
If your osteoporosis is mild it is understandable to try a "holistic" approach but if it is more severe, I hope you will try medications without fear for your kidneys. Probably not relevant since you were just diagnosed!
My integrative medicine doctor has instructed me to include K2 with vitamin D for effectiveness. Look it up and se if it makes sense to you.
I hadn't heard of the REMS scan. Something to check into for sure.
I'm sorry about your kidney disease. Do you have an endocrinologist? Ours is the doctor who has been the most helpful with osteoporosis (my husband has it, caused from taking prednisone for two other non-related conditions PMR and GCA.) Also we get a lot of good suggestions from our physical therapist which we actually see virtually because of our schedules.
Have you checked into Forteo? If you were to take Forteo, it would need to be followed by a drug like Reclast or Fosamax. I'm not sure how any of those affect the kidneys.
Good luck rebuilding your bone through natural methods. I hope you're successful!!
I have osteoporosis and chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 4. I get a bone density test every 2 years. I think it is a Dexa scan. I will ask about the benefits of a REMS scan. I am on Prolia, an injectable medication every 6 months. Before I started it I asked if it would cause problems for my kidneys. My nephrologist approved it. I have these appointments coming up this week and will ask about the scans and the med. If there’s any new information I’ll report back.
you need to see a specialist. You could be doing something dangerous to your kidneys by taking calcium IF your lab checks out normal calcium in your blood! Vitamin D doesn't do anything much so you are wasting your time. I had nutritional chemistry, cook all my meals knowing nutrition and exercise everyday (I'm 67) -- it didn't help keep me out of having my neck vertebrae bone fall apart in surgery last summer. There is a lot to learn and you have to work as a team with your doctor. There are medicines which don't damage your kidneys. Your doctor will help. Drink plenty of water. Can't rely on the DEXAs. I've had them every year since 1998. Nothing prepared me for last summer. No one knows why my bones are the way they are. could have been a past medication. See a good endocrinologist. The best you can find! I really don't have osteoporosis. but I do have osteoarthritis. You can have some good bones and some bad. See a good doctor. Your body will love you!
I also had a kidney disease and I thought I'd share what my doc recommended and helped. I don't have high blood pressure nor am I a diabetic which is what usually people have that have a kidney disease. So my doc put me on a planet based diet for 3 months. She said "don't eat anything that has a "mother" as in any kind of meat, milk, butter, eggs etc. Only eat fruits, veggies, whole grains, nut, and seeds, and legumes. I also had to have oatmeal every morning. After 3 weeks of being on this I had to go to emergency room for acute stomach pain, turns out I had diverticulitis . They did blood work and I could not believe how my kidney numbers went up to normal. Along with the plant base diet I took Doterra Zendocrine Detoxification Blend soft gels and Zendocrine Detoxification Complex, which my doc approved of. Doing both helped me to get my kidneys back to normal. Lately I have been swaying away and cheating too much so my numbers are going down again. I'm going back to doing what I need to do. Just thought this might be of help to you.
Blessings....
I am in southern calif. Newport beach. I would like a REMS scan too. Last I checked with DEXA a year ago, I had osteopenia. The REMS scan is what modality? Thanks
