I have been on Prednisone almost 1 year. I really want to get off of it. I got down to 5 mg and still have some pain.

5mg was the hard spot for me. I waited until i was comfortable. Not pain free and then tried again. I was only on 6 months. So month 4 I tried 2.5mg and it was painful. I went back to 5mg for a month and then tried again. It was still painful but not as bad. So I stayed at 2.5mg for a month and stopped. I know that doesnt fit the taper rules but I had only been on for 6 months and really wanted off. It took 6 months to get back to somewhat normal. I would take an alleve in the morning and a tylenol PM in the evening.
