Peripheral Neuropathy Twitching?

Posted by wyp4251987 @wyp4251987, Mar 27, 2023

Hello, I was recently diagnosed with PN. I am experiencing twitching that started in my thigh and has expanded to include upper and lower body including my face. I have had an EMG/NC and was told it is not ALS but the twitching continues to cause anxiety. Anyone else experience similar challenge? I am a 61 yr old male.

I have peripheral neuropathy in my legs and hands also. The last 2-3 months I have muscle fasciculations in my calves especially, but also sometimes arms, abdomen, hips and others. Some nights I lay in bed and twitch "all over" I have been on gabapentin 700-800-900 for months. My calf muscles are shrinking.

Could these twitches be caused by the gabapentin? I fear simply progression of pn. My neuro discounts ALS because this started and continues as idiopathic paiinfull small fiber and axonal neuroathy

@dokp75 I do not take gabapentin and do experience twitching between knees and ankles. I am 9 years since diagnosed and early on, it occurred more often. Now, I still experience it but less often. It can be intense and makes me jump. Yes, at times, I get odd looks. Part of the pleasures of axonal sensory motor PN. Seems to happen more later in day possibly related to tiredness.

Twitching in calves started before I started Gabapentin. My Neuro says twitching is due to nerve irritability but doesn't cause muscle weakness.

For me, it just showed up one day (maybe due to anxiety) I do notice sometimes I have more twitching if I have anxiety or too much caffeine. Honestly, I may just think about it too much and in hopes it will stop!

I also have that periodicall in either leg. I used to think that it was rstless legg syndrome. However it began after I

I have occasional twitching with PN, which makes sense with inflammatory nerve irritation. Both calcium and magnesium act as nerve sedatives and you might check with your doctor about taking a supplement of each to see if it helps.

I can't ignore it. It's a constant reminder of having PN and didn't start until PN started. No pain associated with it. Maddening!

I have only slight twitching in my fingers. I didn't even notice it until my husband said something.

I thought the twitching may be from too many supplements, so I stopped taking them. I still had twitching. So then I started takin b12, calcium, e and d. Plus stopped coffee and tried not to drink much alcohol as I read alcohol was a toxin. I also walk or bike 30 min a day. I think it helped a bit. At least for now. Would love to know if anyone else has been successful with getting rid of them.
