How do I stop gas pains leading to severe diarrhea 2x for 32 days?

Posted by notahappycamper @notahappycamper, Jul 3 9:28pm

I have always had constipation throughout many years and suddenly on May 31 it changed to severe diarrhea 2x a day for 32 days. I have an acidic stomach which results in gas and acid reflux problems. Dr. Changed my stomach pill to 60mg of Dexlansoprazole 1x a day from 20mg of Omeprazole twice daily as needed. I went back to the Omeprazole as it seems to work better.
My c scan to check my pancreas, liver, gall bladder and stomach was negative as was bloodwork for this area and 3 stool tests were all negative. Looking for someone who may have tried other ways with positive results.

I’ve had similar issues following a surgery (Whipple procedure) to remove a neuroendocrine tumor (NET) from my small intestine. The tumor was a gastrinoma, meaning that it produced the hormone gastrin which triggers the secretion of gastric acid. This stomach acid has the effect of breaking down pancreatic enzymes which aid in digestion. This lack of enzymes results in food not properly being digested in the small intestine thereby feeding the microbiome in the large intestines. This leads to severe gas and diarrhea. The volume of diarrhea is the result of your body drawing out water to manage the undigested food. My symptoms continue which suggest that there are other gastrinomas that are still present that were not removed during the surgery or have developed since the surgery.

I share this only as a suggestion to rule out the presence of a gastinoma tumor. The change in symptoms is concerning and is somewhat similar to my symptoms (though my symptoms are more sporadic). Best of luck and Godspeed to a resolution to your symptoms!

I was having discomfort and swelling in my leg. Turns out that I had a substantial blog clot in my leg (groin to ankle) and while trying to figure out what caused the clot they did a CT scan of my abdomen and saw the tumor in my duodenum. The tumor was golf ball sized but very slow growing and was pushing against some veins. This caused the constriction that led to the blood clot. They conducted an endoscopy and biopsied the tumor. They were able to removed it but unfortunately my digestive symptoms have continued and we are now going to do another very high resolution CT scan and endoscopy to look for other smaller tumors.

I had been having some stomach issues before but not this severe. The Whipple procedure removed about ½ my pancreas and my gall bladder so now my digestive enzymes are limited. This is likely contributing to the diarrhea and poor digestion.

I am still able to live a good portion of my life but I have to always be aware of where there is a restroom. I will also fast for a day or so before an event if we are doing something where I don’t know the availability of a bathroom so I can empty out my system and there is less urgency to go.

Figure out which foods are causing the symptoms and decrease or remove that from diet and repeat until you find the culprits.

Get tested for g.i. Infections via primary doctor or g.i.

I have tried several methods, some help and some do not. I have had the Cronic/explosive diarrhea for almost 5 years and have had every test done. NOTHING. I am on colestipol, peppermint capsule, Newton diarrhea drops (some a local health store/vitamins-organic), saccharomyces Boulardii vitamins for the bad bacteria from the same store) veggie enzymes (they seem to work the best), probiotics and a large chewable pill made of licorice (from the same health store). 10 minutes after I put anything in my stomach I run to the bathroom. Sometimes another 3-4 times right after that. This is for the past 5 years every day. The one thing that helps the most is the veggie enzyme when I remember to take it. I try to stay away from three know culprits-dairy, caffeine and fizzed drinks like diet soda, Selter water, etc. Hope this helps
