Yes, this happened to me. I was originally diagnosed with dcis in the left breast from a biopsy that was done after suspicious microcalcifications on a mammogram. When I had the lumpectomy a 4mm IDC was present. Margins weren’t clear and I needed a 2nd surgery. Looking back, I wish that I would have had an MRI after the diagnosis to give insight on the extend of the cancer but no one recommended one and I didn’t know enough then to ask for it. If you haven’t had an MRI or ultrasound I would ask. Even though the IDC was small, it changed my whole treatment plan because it was HER2+. I wish you a good outcome with your surgery.
Take each day as it comes . Don’t worry about the maybes . Usually your biopsy will determine if it’s invasive it yours is DCIs and that’s a better place to be . In some instances they may see invasion post surgery but don’t worry yourself about what may not be . Just focus on getting your surgery done and taking care of yourself . The rest will fall into place.
