Welcome to Connect, @rey3377 There are many deciding factors besides age which can limit a person’s ablity to undergo the lengthy process of a stem cell transplant. Each medical facility will have their own protocol to follow. At Mayo Clinic, doctors will consider selected patients over 65 years of age, depending on their overall physical health. I had my stem cell transplant at the age of 65. I’m now 70, cancer free, feeling fantastic.

I’ve personally mentored several patients who were 65 to 75 at the time of an Allogenic stem cell transplant (using donor cells) and they’re all doing very well years later. What they had in common were that none of them had any pre-existing conditions or co-morbidities which may have interfered with the process and recovery of the transplant.

Do you have a condition which is potentially requiring a stem cell transplant?

Yes I was diagnosed about a year ago with Myelofibrosis. I was told that a transplant would kill me. I am 75 now. I thought I was in good health when I was diagnosed.
