When I was first diagnosed, I read that I would need to give up golf, yoga and pickleball because the movements of twisting, stretching and running could cause fractures. I do not like my life as much without these activities. Looking for permission before I ask my doctor...
Can someone tell me it's really okay to partake?

I think everyone is different and that statement is being cautious. From what I’ve read lots of people sustain compression fractures with a sudden twisting motion. I have a -3.3 L1-4 T-score and I still do very controlled twisting movements, but I have a very strong core and have been doing those types of exercises and activities for years. I don’t push the twist as far as I used to, or with as heavy weights, and I make sure my movements are very controlled. I don’t want to stiffen up, and then need to twist in an emergency and have my body not used to the motion. So far so good.

@bonesmcgee I hear you on this one. I kept going with pickleball for a while but my DXAs got worse and worse so I gave it up. My doctor told me I should continue but just play carefully. But what I love is going all out so I knew that would not work for me. Gave up badminton also. I exercise a lot and fairly intensely but in a very controlled and thoughtful manner. I enjoy the exercise I do but it's definitely not fun like a sport.
I found a substitute that's fun and challenging which is the VR game Beat Saber. It can be as intense as you want it to be. You chose the level of difficulty. I use it as a HIIT workout. It was a complete surprise to me being sort of a neo-luddite but I've fallen in love with Beat Saber. Even if I could improve my bone health enough to return to pickleball and badminton I would keep playing Beat Saber also.

Just saw my doc and she clarified-She sees more patients in the summer due to heavy lifting in the garden and in December heavy lifting decorations. She advised no heavy lifting esp when shoveling or reaching and encouraged me to continue with my favorite activities! Moral: don't believe everything you read and ask someone who knows your history!
