These doctors are awesome. They go by various titles, sometimes including sports medicine but that's misleading. They are MDs and can be very helpful in diagnosing a problem and making a referral to a specialist. My Dr. uses "Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation" in her title.
My Dr is much better than my PCP at diagnosing a myriad of physical problems. The only downside I can see is if a patient has a problem requiring the help of a psychiatrist or psychotherapist.
Your FM doctor may be able to recommend a psychiatrist or physiotherapist. Mine has referred me to a PT as well as others offering alternative therapies when I’ve asked such as an acupuncturist.

That's great to know Gigi, thanks so much! I've had a problem with the major rhomboid muscle on the right side of my back, next to the shoulder blade. Haven't found a long term solution, but maybe acupuncture?????
Leaky gut by definition is intestinal permeability. Mayo, Harvard, John Hopkins and Cleveland medical institutions all state this. That means the lining of the intestines has broken down allowing bacteria and toxins to leak through the intestinal wall. So it’s real. What is not understood by these medical institutions is how or if this is the cause of diseases.
I agree Dr. Gundry is a scam in terms of trying to sell his products. Foods he believes should be omitted also baffles me. One example is avocados that are highly nutritious. There are others like him who have these 30 minute videos and in the end talk about why you should buy their products. And in my opinion there’s nothing unique about their products that you couldn’t find elsewhere.
I don't know about Dr. Gundry, but I do know that a healthy gut is important concerning the issues you are mentioning. Have you tried probiotics. I take them everyday as they provide good bacteria for gut health. It is true that the supplement should also contain prebiotics. The one I use has 10 strains and 60 million CFU's. Not only am I regular, but I feel really good. I will be 70 next year and I started taking probiotics after being on anti biotics for a while. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your gut (good and bad). I did my research and now my gut health is wonderful. It won't hurt for you to start taking probiotics. Check with your doctor. Make sure it has multiple strains and at least 40 to 60 million CFU's (colony forming units). God bless.
Excellent article on constipation and treatments, thanks for that Rashida. I deal with chronic idiopathic constipation, or CIC. "Idiopathic" means there is no known cause.
I also take some of the meds on the list in the article that contribute to constipation. I eat fiber, eat a lot of fruit, avoid sugar as much as possible, drink a lot of water with electrolytes, and workout every day - all at age 69. I still get constipated. I have been prescribed Motegrity, which helps "push" a little. I also take Dulcolax, which contains bisacodyl, a stimulant. I try to keep the bisacodyl to a minimum, but don't know what else to do.
Like Milk of Magnesia, as you note, these stimulants should not be taken on a long-term basis. And MoM, or Magnesium Citrate, cause mostly diarrhea and are used before a colonoscopy, so watch out.
It's a constant battle. I should not be taking as much bisacodyl as I do, so I don't recommend it.
@tabithawitch it has been about a year since you last posted, and you mentioned you had to vacate your apartment and that you were looking for a shelter.
I hope you have found somewhere permanent, to live. Please let us know how you are doing!?

Acupuncture may be helpful. Also think about seeing a chiropractor who offers multiple types of therapies based on issues and also consider a seeing a Physical Therapist. Your doctor ought to be able to recommend a PT. I’ve seen both depending on what I’m dealing with.
Best to you!
I only say this because these Drs specialize in physical medicine, kinesiology. I might be wrong and they are MDs after all. I'm sure they could make a referral to a psychiatrist or psychotherapist if that was something they thought could help.

@candidough47 by Magnesium Stearate, do you mean Milk of Magnesia? If Milk of Magnesia, it should not be taken for more than a week.

@gigi4 you are spot on!
@andrew7 what brand of probiotic+prebiotic do you take?
