Hi Gigi...
When reading Dr Gundry's advice I'm quite certain he suggested that we all eat one avocado a day because he feels they are so beneficial. So that's exactly what I've been doing! Sure hope I read that correctly. lol

I do know that avocados are extremely healthy and I have avocado toast daily with breakfast. I'm unfamiliar with what Dr. Gundry recommends. I don't like his approach as it takes too long to listen to his videos and then he's selling a product at the end.

I agree that the videos are sometimes a bit much! 😘

I personally cannot stand all these docs who have gone "hollywood." They are all selling their goods and cannot be trusted!

Leaky gut is not a scam, but I don't favor Dr. Gundry's approach--$$$$$ and manipulation. A good resource is the IFM, Institute of Functional Medicine website. You can read a lot of material and research for yourself. The IFM trains medical docs in FM. I trained as a coach.

You’re so right! After 3 endoscopies, I was done with my doctors, PPI’s and just treating my symptoms. And went in search of a FM doctor and she’s fantastic!

FM is functional medicine. Functional medicine doctors look for the CAUSE of symptoms.

Sounds like they're a good man to having in your corner.
Are they like a GP that sends you to a specialist for every little thing or do they check you out themselves?
Thank you,
Jake

FM doctors are not like a GP. Each FM doctor specializes in certain conditions, illnesses. On the ifm.org website when you do a search by city and state, you’ll find a list of doctors and their specialties and other therapies they offer.
I also see my Internal Medicine doctor at least once a year for my annual and tests like mammograms and Dexascans for osteoporosis. But each FM doctor operates as an independent and creates their own practice.
Also, generally, pharmaceuticals aren’t prescribed. My FM doctor prescribes homeopathy treatments, nutritional supplements, nutritional advice as she has a nutritionist on her staff as well as a coach to help learn how tone deal stress (as stress is a huge cause to illness).

These doctors are awesome. They go by various titles, sometimes including sports medicine but that's misleading. They are MDs and can be very helpful in diagnosing a problem and making a referral to a specialist. My Dr. uses "Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation" in her title.

My Dr is much better than my PCP at diagnosing a myriad of physical problems. The only downside I can see is if a patient has a problem requiring the help of a psychiatrist or psychotherapist.
