Arlo, Please keep us posted on your experiment. Splitting pills is generally ok but I have never tried on an extended release because of not being able to get a "true split."

If I read this article correctly there are two kinds of mucus in lungs, MUC5AC and MUC5B found in different parts/layers of the lungs. According to the article mucinex (aka GGE) significantly inhibited MUC5AC secretion, which I think means that mucinex reduces some mucus production. Maybe that's why we feel a bit better less congested on it?

It is a bit confusing. I thought the whole point of Mucinex was to help loosen the mucus you have so it can be expelled more easily? But if it reduces some mucus production that would support some saying it can have a drying effect? One thing I came across recently was that guaifenesin is a mild immune suppressant. I know sometimes when I take Mucinex I will feel better than usual that day. Other times no help at all. Maybe worse the next day?
