Stress related IBS, how can I stop the runs?

Posted by ann43 @ann43, Jun 19 9:15am

I believe I have stress related IBS. I had an emotional shock 8 days ago and I have had persistant diarrhea for 8 days now. I am fatigued, I am having problems sleeping, and I am starting to feel overwhelmed. I am using imodium, and Pepto and I'm drinking plenty of water so I am not dehydrated, but I can't get the diarrhea to stop. Any suggestions?

I'm better. Thanks to everyone who helped get me through this flare up of my IBS. What helped most were prayer, imodium, pepto, fiber, prayer and eating rice, bananas, and potato salad. So now I have the remedys to use when it happens again. The prayer was very helpful. When I would feel the urge rather than running for the bathroom I would relax and ask God/Jesus to cure my bowel, and assure them that I truly believed and I had faith that they would cure me and the urge would subside.... yes, really. I did this again and again and that night I slept through and the next morning I had a normal BM. Thank you, God!!

I am taking probiotics, eating applesauce, taking fiber and imodium, pepto, and eating bananas. This is going on now for about 2 weeks, although I am getting long periods of time without the runs, finally got a good night's sleep last night. I am very fatigued.

Yesterday I made up a batch of sloppy joe... had a small sandwich with chips and a few dill chips and nearly immediately got explosive runs which went on for several hours. 2 imodium pills, pepto and prayer got it to stop, and got me through the night. I don't know what to do. Hopefully at some point this will stop. Afraid to eat at this point

Sounds like you may have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Here is what I did that helped me.
I took several months researching the different foods that people with IBS found they could eat that helped their symptoms. Then using trial and error I began to cut things out of my diet to see if they gave me some relief. I kept records of everything I ate and every bowel movement and found out what helped and what caused problems. I started by cutting wheat and lactose out of my diet. There is a lot of information on the web and it takes time but you can figure out a diet that helps. One supplement that I take that helps is psyllium husk tablets. Prayer definitely helps. God bless you.
