Oh my Sue-
"I grew up between a coal-fired power plant and heavy industry, near the railroad tracks in the "inner city".
I read a while back, and it does sound logical, that once a healthy person's cells/genes have changed due to factors such as you mentioned (coal fired power plant etc.)....those bad cells/genes that they developed are passed onto the off springs (children etc.) . I know that our cells can be altered after birth but had not thought of our genes being altered ....and the way that they work.
My Mom was into good nutrition and vitamin C supplements etc, when we were kids growing up. We ate healty meals and had very little sugary foods etc. I have, more so now that I was diagnosed with the BE, avoided sugary foods and most of the things we know we should not indulge in...especially often. So yes...fruits, veggies, beans, lentils, seeds, nuts, poultry, some fish, and a steak or burger once in a blue moon. Oh, and that favorite of mine...ice cream once in a blue moon.
I just didn't know how detrimental/harmful/damaging etc. etc. our environment could be to those of us who have had illnesses that affected our lungs and could be one of the underlying reasons we end up developing BE eventually.
I enjoy your shares and helpful information!
Barbara
