I’d discuss it with your primary, but definitely ask for a Vitamin B12 test. My smell/taste disorder is now strongly suspected to be due to that deficiency. I’ve had metallic and bitter taste for months. Keep searching for an explanation. Complaints of something like this are often ignored and not looked at closely. Also, bring up if you have any other issues.
My husband had that constant salty taste many years ago, and his Dr said it was a zinc deficiency. He prescribed a zinc supplement and that took care of it. Check with your Dr, it could be a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Good luck.
I've had a burning mouth for a few years now..It goes away overnight. Doesn't matter what I eat. Could this be from the same thing as "salty mouth"??
Mine is just salty
Yes, I had same. Ent diagnosed vitamin deficiency.
Did they tell you what vitamin was deficient?? Thanks!
My ENT didn’t catch my Vitamin B12 deficiency. He thought it was resolved. But, no. I wasn’t processing it. Anyway, he suggested a Zinc supplement, which I did start taking. Then stopped. Good thing, because my neurologist said Zinc can cause problems. I didn’t ask more about it since he doesn’t want me on Zinc. It may be needed by some people.
B12
If you are not absorbing the B12, they make sub-lingual B12 which gets absorbed in your mouth, not the stomach. If you are taking something for GERD, that can cause your stomach to not absorb B12.
My nutritionist told me to discontinue Zinc, B12, B Complex, Vitamin C, magnesium, said I didn't need them and would rather me get them from real food. Thoughts?
