I am also learning a lot from this group -- far more than from my nephrologist. I do not have elevated potassium or phos. although my eGRE is in the 30's. However, should I still limit my consumption of foods with a fair amount of these elements? No one really talks about sugar. If it definitely off limits? Coffee?

@sdanderson007 When we are dealing with Chronic Kidney Disease on a daily basis, we are looking at trends in our labwork. In my experience, now is definitely the time to be watching sodium, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, protein and sugar levels. Be watchful, and watch your labs. I drink one cup of coffee a day, in the morning.

You will find good guidelines for diet here in our support group, and read what other members do for themselves. Also, rsnhope.org, and National Kidney Foundation have good resources.
