Can you advise on prostate cancer?

Radiation is not a benign procedure. I had external beam and seed implantation which damaged the surrounding tissue. I developed a hole (fistula) between the urethra and rectum and the urethra scarred over. As a result I have and Ileostomy and a suprapubic catheter.
I don't know about the other procedure.
I would opt for monitoring. There's an old saying that you die WITH prostate cancer not FROM it.

At 81 and that prosthetic cancer is slow growing you might die from another cause before the cancer having been diagnosed with kidney and liver issues. I’m 72 and unless the procedure would provide you with additional benefit to your decreasing days I’d steer clear. If your symptoms are controllable I’d think twice before proceeding. My 2 cents!

Mine as well after a few days to mull it over. However, I will discuss it with my GP before making a final decision.

I hope with a diagnosis such as this and your increasing age your affairs are in order along with your last wishes. Your GP should have a copy of your Advanced Notice regarding your health outcomes. You’re ahead of me by ten years and all I can do is wait and experience it as it comes. There are never any promises as we age and our bodies break down. Every day is a day to defeat aging trying to beat back the clock in the end to no avail. I wish you well.

I'm 85 and had Proton Therapy 4 years ago. It did not damage any other tissue and have had no side effects. I still get up 2-3 times per night but that is normal for someone with an 85 year old bladder. I was taking FloMax twice a day but a PAE (prostate artery embolization) took care of that. They put tiny beads in the two arteries going to the prostate. The lack of blood then shrinks it. The procedure to about an hour under anesthetic and I was out in about 4 hours and walking my dog that evening.

Wow, me, I am 68, had RP for two Gleason 4+4's. Clear margins. PSA is undetectable.

First off did you have a biopsy? What were the results? Did you have a PSMA PET scan?

Lastly find another Dr, ideally from a national cancer center to review your cancer. And many of them offer telehealth 2nd opinions that are covered by health insurance.

Yes, 2 of 12 biop'd samples showed c cells. Before seeking 2nd opinion I'll speak to my GP. Leaning towards monitoring. But like your suggestion re c centers and telehealth.

Dana Farber is well set up for tele-health and second opinion, it's where I went. Very smart staff.

Also Mayo Clinic in Rochester, not used them but heard they are amazing.

I had Proton SBRT treatment (5 treatments over a 10 day period) on my Prostate Cancer in Sept 2020 at Mayo Rochester. I was 72 at the time and my PSA was 11+. Had the SpaceOrb put in prior to Radiation and I've no problems with my PSA at < 0.1, undetectable. At your age I would either go with active surveillance or SBRT Radiation. But that's me, not necessarly you. Good luck!
