Until Tymlos, I had a lifetime experience of heartburn twice (when I was pregnant). My GERD started with Tymlos - I now have a sliding hiatal hernia (comes and goes). While on Tymlos, I had chest pains caused by the hernia and feared I was having a heart attack. For an occasional “episode” I use Tums. If Tums doesn’t work, I use Omeprazole at bedtime for a few days and the GERD subsides, sometimes for quite awhile.
Meds like Omeprazole and Prilosec have their own set of cautions, especially for those of us with OP. I think the standard (anyone can feel free to chime in) is to use these acid blockers for 30 days at a stretch, but a few days seems to work for me. I asked my cardiologist about using the blockers, and told him about my short-term bursts of them. He was happy to hear that I only take them when my GERD is bad and then only until I feel better. Constant irritation of the esophagus can cause other problems, so getting on top of the issue can be of importance down the road.
I don’t think my issues were worsened by Evenity - I’ll get my final doses on June 27. Btw, I couldn’t take oral OP meds because of indigestion and stomach upset. As always, check with your OP doc or your PCP about what’s best for you if you have GERD or GERD-related issues.
Cheers, y’all!
I too never epeereinced stomach issues until Tymlos. Now that said, I dont drink caffeine, alcohol, or eat tomates or pungent foods - so I am careful with my diet.
Tymlos side effects for me, were upper stomach pain, aggressive belching, food sitting in my throat, excessive spit ( I neve spit!) and medicinal tast in my mouth. I was losing weight.
I contcated an ayurvedic phyisican who helped me manage my symptoms so I could continue the medication. It took a few months to figure out, but I now an ok on tymlos as long as I take the herbal formulations for digestive support. Side effects in many cases point to an imblance that is already there and is unmaksed due to the stresses of the new medication. There is no one size fits all solution but effort and a good fuctional doctor can work with you and help support the body in dealing with medicines.
