Getting sick after sun exposure

@gingerw

@windyshores I also have Systemic Lupus, diagnosed in 1988. They consider it a fairly mild case, but the symptoms can still be offputting. I use a facial sunscreen, usually a tinted moisturizer. I use different sunscreens on my arms. Due to my other health conditions, I get amazing bruises on my arms, and discoloration. Yes to wearing sunscreens and long sleeves!

One thing that has helped me over the years is to have my car windows tinted. I carry a prescription from my doctor stating this is needed due to my high sensitivity to sunlight/UV rays. It's been a long time since I was stopped for my dark window tint, but I have fought every ticket, and won.

Making sure we stay hydrated, and for me, making sure I keep air moving around me can really help. The sun and UV rays heat up our skin, causing blood to come to the surface to try to cool us down. So, we then feel light-headed and tired.

Hoping this helps?
Ginger

@gingerw thanks! I had a prescription and letter from my old rheumatologist, who has retired. It was difficult with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles- a lot of bureaucracy. Maybe I will try again.

I have bruises all over my lower arms. Ecchymoses? They say it is senile purpura. Not sure. Interesting that you have them. My red blood cells are large and other blood tests are off for anemia. Kidney function took a dive but apparently not autoimmune. So yes mine is mild too, in the shade!
