I am waiting for a total knee replacement as well and my doctor said mine will be in an outpatient setting more than likely-if I am to be in the hospital, it will only be overnight.
Yeah most TKRs are outpatient surgeries. They have a therapist come in and take you on a short walk with a walker before being released. And then you have to hit the rehab exercises, 3x/day no exceptions. You'll be happy you did. I did and the TKRs have been incredible. No more bone-on-bone pain, in the gym everyday. At 70 y/o, I'm a happy guy.
Now back to handball - are you talking about traveling from Scottsdale via airplane? If so, check with your doc on when you can get on an airplane after a TKR, or any surgery.

Handball????? Well now there is a simply wonderful sport. I am 78. At a challenging moment in my life over 45 years ago I took up handball. Played it religiously for some 10 years. Best part handball helped deal with my ANGER. besides the physical benefits.

That aside, I respect handball players. Not for sissies. I see these people playing pickle ball and strutting like athletes. Just my opinion, but pickleball is like ping pong with different paddles and balls. Actually ping pong requires more skill and athleticism.
My brother has had the same problem after surgery, very nauseous and disoriented for hours after waking up. It's not uncommon. I don't know of there is anything that can be done, other than to alert the anesthesiologist and possible get some anti-nausea medicine after.

I commented about it but who knows....after my hysterectomy I had no issues at all and they gave me Zofran in my IV. Not sure if the gave me anything or not but I walked probably 5 feet and said if they didn't get me back in bed be sick and fall on the ground.

I was told by anesthesia that including zofran during the surgery would keep me from being so sick after surgery. Didn’t help. They assured me “you’ll be home by 2:00 “ Wrong. . I was so sick after waking up from my TKR that I didn’t go home til late afternoon the next day. My recovery was tough.

1 ReactionI stayed 2 nights due to pain and I was so nauseous when they first got me out of the bed...took me 24 hours with whatever anesthesia they gave me.

Did you get Zofran with the joint replacement surgery? Thanks for mentioning it - I had nor heard of Zofran. Good to know.
