Best way to track steps on daily walk
I walk every day except the week I have chemo, usually a half hour. I am guessing I walk a mile? I have been doing my walks for 4 years since my cancer diagnosis. They are now part of my day.
I would like to count my steps but would like to know how other people do this. Is a pedometer, watch, phone or other device the most accurate? Thanks!

I use an inexpensive Fitbit watch. I bought it at Walmart and it works well. I only use it to measure my steps on my walks. Surprisingly, a mile is much further than it seems ☺️. Good for you, getting in your walks.
@dj12 If you have an iPhone you can go to the Health app and set it to record your steps. There is probably something similar on other phones but I wouldn't know how to access that function. I have an AppleWatch that I use to track my steps, how often I stand, and my exercise. It syncs with my iPhone. It's great that you are getting out for walks on a regular basis.
I don't have an iPhone but will see if something is on my Android phone.
I also use my Fitbit watch. It records steps, heart rate, sleep, and some other stuff that I don’t
Use. Works great.

I have an Android..Samsung Galaxy and bought a Samsung watch a few years ago. It is synced to my phone so any calls or text messages will vibrate. I have set a minimum of 5000 steps daily ( little over 2 miles) and prompts to get up and move if you have been sitting too long. It tracks other activities such as running or swimming but I am only interested in steps. You get a blue sneaker award when you reach your goal. Believe me, you get to the point where you want that blue sneaker award every day and don’t want to break the streak. It’s a great motivator. I put my watch on when I get up and go out trekking at 6:30 daily. No matter what the day is like I “have” to get those steps in even if I walk around my house in circles.
I got mine on Amazon…basic…both the watch and phone are Samsung. But a basic Fitbit is good too. I have a small wrist so that was a factor in buying and it is feminine looking with interchangeable bands.

I walk every day unless the temperature is in the 90's which occurs infrequently, (or snowing, pouring rain etc. etc..). I'm an 89 year old solo woman!!! While walking I listen to talks on various subjects on my Iphone. (Without it I would not have the desire to do this daily.). Therefore I am never bored with my daily ritual. I also stop to pet neighborhood dogs who respond joyfully. (Their owners less joyfully as it interrupts their own walks) Hee Hee Hee!!!!!
I use a smartwatch to track my steps. I find if I don't use it, I walk less steps per day - it really helps me to push me to do more. I have a life smartwatch, you can get them on Amazon for about $40. I hope this helps.
Yes, I feel guilty if I don't walk every day. Plus I would miss talking to the neighbors and seeing all the animals. 2 cats in different windows, 2 cats in different doors, 2 chickens, a terrier and his owner, a cute white puppy, and more now that people have their doors open!
Thanks for all your tips.
Does the Fitbit need a phone to sync to? I guess I prefer a simple standalone watch?
Yes, I feel like the mail carrier, always out except for lightning or the few days after chemo treatment. I have actually cut back if too much ice also.
No use breaking a hip. I guess I am a youngster at 66, haha. I used to DRAG my spouse with me, but now sometimes she drags me if I feel exhausted!
