Any recommendations for radiation oncologist at Mayo in Rochester?

Hi, I’m a year post radiation at Mayo. I was very impressed with Dr Rajkumar and her team. When she first walked into the room and shared with us that she had already reviewed my scans with several of her colleagues and thus had a combined opinion for an approach I was sold! After and continued care has been very personal and she has remained attentive. We trust her.

Following my initial consult yesterday at Mayo I have been referred to Dr. Choo with consultation and treatment planning on 7/22. Would also like an opinion as well. Thinking whoever you get at Mayo as an RO specializing in prostate will be great. I am Grade 3 (4+3) Contained in prostate. PSMA is clean. Advise??

I am a Gleason 4+4 at stage cT3a and with Cribriform Pattern 4. My urologist, Dr. Abdul-Muhsin, Haidar, recommended RP which is scheduled 12 days from now. He also recommended I meet with Dr. Sarah James, Radiation Oncology, which I did yesterday. She told me that while radiation would normally be recommended in my situation, however,
I have BPH issues with urination and she informed me that radiotherapy will cause swelling in the urethra that could make future urination difficult if not impossible and I could possibly even need a catheter. She also told me that since I have coronary artery disease, and an adjunvant treatment of 18 months of HRT would be part of the radiation treatment in order to achieve the similar efficacy to RP, and HRT has, among many other potential negative health impacts, possible negative impacts on the cardiovascular system, and as a result of these issues, she recommended I proceed with RP and keep radiation for future salvage treatment if necessary. Dr. James listened and answered questions fully and I was quite pleased with her information.

My husband had an RARP just 9 days ago. He is doing amazing! Virtually no incontinence. We won't know about ED for a while, yet. His surgeon (at MAYO Arizona) is amazing! Pathology showed a more aggressive cancer than original testing showed (from
Gleason 7 to Gleason 9). His lymph nodes are clear. We are thankful it is out and we have a true understanding of exactly what we are facing due to pathology (one of the reasons many choose RP). He is cancer free right now and he is recovering nicely. Additional treatment could be down the road if his PSA goes back up but for now he continues to recover and heal.
