@cinders59

I have 2 spiculated nodules on both upper lobes. They both lit up on a PET scan. I had a biopsy on Wednesday and the only thing I have heard is from “my chart”.
Rare (1 +) Gram positive cocci in pairs and chains.
Has anyone else seen this ? What does this mean ? Thanks in advance.

"The presence of Gram-positive cocci in pairs and chains in a lung biopsy suggests bacterial infection. These cocci are typically Streptococcus species or Enterococcus species1. Streptococci are commonly found in the respiratory tract and can cause various infections, including pneumonia, otitis media, and meningitis. It’s essential to identify the specific strain for appropriate treatment." Per Dr. Google.

My source is google. Just google “gram positive cocci in pairs and chains in a lung biopsy”.

Hi @cinders59, Of course your doctor will need to interpret the results, but for now, I would be pleased that it doesn't say adenocarcinoma or some other cancerous terms. Most lung nodules are not cancer. Infections or inflammation will show on a PET scan.
When is your next appointment with your doctor?
