I was told by GI drs and a GI dietician that calcium citrate was easier on the gut than carbonate and more effective for me (+ they stuck with 1200 mg). This was in the context of 1st severe ulcerative colitis and now an ileostomy (i.e. no large intestines) so impaired ability to absorb.
When I asked my endocrinologist, he looked at the blood tests and said that whatever I was doing was working, so it was fine with him.
My doctor thought it wouid be much easier on my GI tract than calcium carbonate. So, I will give it a try!
