Eligard: any correlation with carpal tunnel?

Posted by pkren @pkren, May 28 12:44pm

New here. Diagnosed with prostate cancer. Radiation treatment ended. Need to be on eligard for 2 years. I am 3 doses in and just like that diagnosed with severe carpal tunnel in both wrists! Curious if anyone has heard of a correlation?

My husband has been on Eligard for 2 years. Now he has numbing and tingling in his hands. Most likely carpal tunnel.

Its disheartening to hear, as it seems Eligard is to blame, but yet the Oncologist said he had never heard of this.

Efigard is similar to Erleada (a second generation ADT inhibitor). I was on Erleada and lupron for a year thereafter I had painful hand and joint issues. I visited a rheumatologist who gave me 2 series of steroid shots and advised me that this is sometimes a side effect of lupron and Erleada . The injections made it better but less than good.

My husband is 2/3 through 3 years of Eligard injections. He has numbness, tingling and stiffness in his hands, perhaps carpel tunnel syndrome. Is this caused by the ADT?

ADT can cause issues in hand joints. I was on lupron for a year and had pain and stiffness in my hands and fingers. I went to a rheumatologist and got steroid shots in the most affected areas. It helped a lot but not a complete cure. I no longer shake hands and certainly do not play golf. It is livable and it is part of the new living with cancer.

Thank you. It makes sense...we wondered how he could get carpal tunnel in both hands all of a sudden. If his test is negative we will request the shots. It really interrupts his sleep...which isn't so great anyway after prostate radiation treatments!
