Just diagnosed with DCIS: How do I know what questions to ask?
Hello, I am hoping to find some comfort with the group.
I just got diagnosed with DCIS stage 0. I don't have the full details yet, just got a call (and I consented to get the results over the phone). I am scheduled to discuss it further with a surgeon and my doctor.
Any help is appreciated. I am so lost right now. I can research all day and night, but I don't even know where to begin.
Perhaps I could start by asking any tips on what to ask the doctors for my appointment. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Keep the faith.

Thanks! I am a bit younger than ( 46)so it does make me nervous for the return :(. Do you remember what grade yours was? Like 1,2 or 3 I believe they categorize .
I have no idea about what grade it was. It;s definitely scary, but, with odds in your favor, you'll probably do fine. your doctors have so much knowledge
I am also 64 and have DCIS stage 0. At least, that’s what “they” think. I’m putting off my biopsy until I am on Medicare in a few month.
How do you know what stage cancer if you haven’t had biopsies I am confused
The doctor who looked at my 2nd mammogram said this is what he thinks I have - DCIS. But, yes, you are right: I won’t know for sure until September which is the first month of my Medicare and that’s when I’ll have the biopsy.
Good luck if you have cancer you have to ask what treatment is recommended radiation or chemo why and for how long. Will you follow up with meds get second opinion you decide. Go with someone else that can take notes my best friend went with me and my husband. We were numb and didn’t hear anything my friend then read everything to us calmly
Thank you for the tips! This is helpful and others on this thread have recommended some similar things. Very helpful. I’ll be back & let ya all know.
You will know the right decision it will just feel right. I had a lumpectomy and chose to be on anastrazole my doctors advice. Made it through five years with little side effects. Totally doable. It didn’t hurt that I am retired could rest and be good to me best of luck. Keep us posted
Thank you again! I will
Keep you posted. Thank you!
Ask for a MRI so you have more information on the extent of it before making surgical decisions.
