Any recommendations for radiation oncologist at Mayo in Rochester?
My husband, age 79, has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
Biopsy on April 30th of 12 cores with 6 positive. 3+3 and 3+4 for a score of 7 on the Gleason scale. PSA of 6.3. He has had the Decipher test done with a score of .28. He has an MRI scheduled for July 3rd.
After listing to YouTube videos with Mark ScholzMD and Alex Scholz he is leaning towards radiation rather than surgery. If he goes that direction, he will ask for the Prostox test to see what the impact will be on him. He visited Mayo on May 23rd to establish the relationship, with surgery in mind at that time.
I have noticed references to surgeons at Mayo that were recommended by this group, but nothing on a radiologist for oncology. Does anyone have experiences with Mayo in Rochester for radiation? Did you have the Prostox test first? Would really appreciate your insight and guidance. Thanks!

@water0164 I've had a wonderful relationship with Brad Stish who treated my PC back in 2020. Absolutely no problems since then. PSA has remained at < 0.01 since. Did the SBRT Proton treatment, 5 doses over 10 days. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your experience!
Dave, your information sounds very encouraging to me. I will have to look up the SBRT Proton treatment to better understand it. We will be traveling from CO to Rochester for the treatment. Seeing your time frame of 5 doses over 10 days is encouraging as well as your results. Thanks again.
I recently met with Dr Anne Rajkumar in Rochester. She has impresive creditentals and even though she is young I was impressed by her demeanor and feel confident in her ability to conduct my treatment. Mayo is not a Dr only driven facility, it is a team effort. When I pressed her about wanting the narrowest margins of radiation she steered me away from Proton and explained why. I also am having 5 doses in two weeks starting in September.
I really appreciate your post and knowing your Doctor’s name as well as there being other options of radiation treatment in the short time frame. Did you do the Prostox test to help determine what the effects might be on you? My husband has a favorable Gleason score of 7 in 6 cores. Does that fall into similar outlook as yours? I wish you the very best with your treatment in September.
water, I have some 3+3 and some 3 +4. Genomic tests were intermediate with the agressiveness of the cancer so I opted to wait until September to start the whole ordeal. I did not have the prostox test done. I asked for the narrowest margin treatment to avoid issues and we're doing that. Good luck to your hubby and to you also. Remember to take care of yourself also.

I used Dr. Davis and team at Rochester for three weeks of spot radiation in April 2023 and they were great. I chose to stay in Rochester and have his team do the work, rather than use a local firm in Colorado.
Dr. Kwon referred me to Dr. James Leenstra at the Mayo Radiation Center in Northfield, Minnesota. Very competent and friendly place.
Thank you florida11. I appreciate your reply and the fact that you too are from CO and selected to be treated at Mayo. Can you share any information on where you stayed for your 3 weeks and if you were happy with the choice or would make recommendations of some where else. Also wondering if you flew to Rochester or drove. If you drove, was the trip back to CO a challenge? Hope you are doing well with your recovery. Thanks again!
