Oh your poor daughter! I haven’t had shingles but I hear it’s very painful. So I’m glad she saw her doctor quickly and got the appropriate treatment to stop the progression.

From my understanding it’s a CDC recommendation for people over 50 to get the vaccine. However, adults 19 years and older who have or will have weakened immune systems because of disease or therapy should also get two doses of Shingrix. If needed, people with weakened immune systems can get the second dose 1 to 2 months after the first.

It is still recommended for people who have had shingles but not the vaccine to get vaccinated to reduce the risk of future attacks.

I hope this was a one-off for your daughter. Was she under a lot of stress or have a weakened immune system that you know of?

She was a marathoner until she had triplets (now 15) followed by a son 22 months later. Her husband is a former pro baseball pitcher and successful business man. They both coach and manage various sports for the kids. She considers herself an unpaid Uber driver, as the kids attend four different schools this past year. They travel to various states including PR for tournaments. He has semi-retired recently and she is looking forward to December when each of the three daughters will get a car. So, yes, quite a bit of stress. More than when the babies were very young as she always had au pares and nanny's.
