Can Evenity cause weight gain? Heart or stroke issues?
Does this drug cause weight gain? Also at this time I have never had a heart problem, can Evenity cause me to have a stroke?

My doctor did not want me to take evenity when it first came out because of apparent heart warnings. The two people i know who took evenity both had cardiac problems within the year. if i were you: i would make an appt and talk to your dr about your concerns. Just a suggestion
Instead of Reclast after the Evenity, did you Dr even mention if Fosamax was an option instead?
That is a good doctor to keep, someone who actually has your best interests in mind. My doctor wanted to put me on Prolia right away and minimized its potential side effects to me. I thought that was just so false. I always wonder if they are primarily interested in just having more patients on their roster and the recurring revenues that these drugs provide for them.
sorry, she wanted to put me on Prolia, AFTER knowing that the Evenity she recommended didn't work and that I had to have cardiac ablation surgery to recover from that terrible recommendation. As one doctor from another field who is a friend, said to me, osteoporosis is a condition in severe need of a good solution.
What diet do you think contributed?
Because of evenity or did they have issues prior to taking ?
Yes. I think he would have preferred that. I can’t take any of the oral meds due to gerd. If you’ve never had gerd - it can be really terrible.
I'm not aware of Evenity directly causing weight gain. I've heard that that can happen with Tymlos. I've gained weight on Evenity because it made me ravenous for the first 3 months. I put it down to my body needing more food to grow bone. There's at least one other member of the support group who says she's experienced this too.
I like your reasoning and info, Hopefull! I’ve been trying to lose the same 6 or 8 pounds since being on Evenity. I, too, am ravenous and can’t manage to stop eating - “good” food, too. Perhaps it is our body’s need for nourishment to give our bones a boost.
Hi Beanione,
My endocrinologist told me that she'd never heard of hunger as a result of Evenity (eye roll). You and I know that it definitely does.
How many months of Evenity have you had? One indication of bone loss is weight loss, so gaining weight can be a really good sign. Bones have weight, so increased bone density=increased weight.
A few months before starting Evenity, I began forcing myself to eat more, and I put on a few pounds. Shortly after the first set of injections, I suddenly couldn't eat enough. I used the added hunger, like you, to really pack in more "good" food, and I stopped looking at the scale. After 3 sets of injections, I let the doctor weigh me, and I had increased my weight by 10% from the previous year.
I'm not as hungry now, but I'm making myself eat the same amount, and diversity of food to keep feeding my bones.
I've had 5 treatments, and I'm finding that the weight is shifting on my body--decreasing around the middle, and moving--with exercise--to muscle, and hopefully bone. Our bodies can't get the materials it needs for growth from air, so I really think the hunger makes sense. Keep eating! 🙂
