How do you tell people about new diagnosis of anal cancer?
Just got diagnosed with anal cancer, found in colonoscopy. It is squamous cell with basaloid features. Meet with oncologist next Friday to learn treatment options. In the meantime, do I tell family& friends, or wait to find out what I’m dealing with & how? And then, when I start sharing this, how do I? Being as where the cancer is, are butt or a-hole jokes appropriate opening lines?

I am sorry to hear about your brother. Cancer doesn't play fair when it hits families. I can totally understand wanting to wait for more information to share this news. Your family has plenty to deal with already. Comfort and peace for your brother and the family. Hoping for an early diagnosis and better prognosis for you.
Thank you for your concern and comforting thoughts. We are all trying to keep his spirits up, I don’t want to cause more stress.
lah115, did you find out your treatment plan? How are you doing?
I’m doing ok, thanks. Feeling pretty positive about treatment plan: 2 rounds of chemo (96 hrs. each), one at start of radiation, the other at end. Will meet with radiation oncologist Wednesday to find out their ideas. Need to get a port inserted before anything starts. This was caught early, thank God, so I’m optimistic. So glad I found this site- lots of good info❣️
Good point, @deba3490. Sometimes people don't want too many details, either. Do you also have colorectal cancer?
