I read somewhere some time ago that carbonated water (Pellegrino, Perrier) is sterile. Can anyone confirm? I am just curious. If it is, it would simplify my life so much.

I don't hesitate to drink either one but I do not drink it very often. Bubbly water can exacerbate reflux so I drink it during the day.
