Upper Thigh Pain Months After Hip Replacement
I had a hip replacement 4 months ago and from the day after surgery I have horrible pain in my upper front thigh/groin area. Come to find out the surgeon fractured my femur but didn’t tell us, I found out a month after when I ended up in the er with horrible pain they thought was an infection in the hip, they found the fracture in a ct scan. My surgeon won’t see me I only see his PA, and the last thing the PA said was the pain was psychological, and he’s sending me for a nerve conduction study.
It hurts to sit in the recliner, lift my leg when standing, I can’t lift it to get in the passenger side of the car (was my left hip that was replaced) and laying in bed is awful and I’m in pain and unable to sleep all night. Could they have injured something else when they broke through the back of my femur? Has this happened to anyone else? I’m only 52 and needed the replacement from a bad accident that tore the labrum and cartilage beyond fixing.
Thanks for your help, I can’t take this and the surgeons pa anymore.

next week we shall see, thanks
I THR on 05/2021 left hip, as time went by I to had severe pain in my groin while sitting in a prone position especially when I stood up. I can’t stand on my left leg to long either. I had a mri and the results where iliopsoas bursitis I guess it’s pretty common with people that had total hip replacement. I had several cortisone injections also but they didn’t help much. I had several doctors tell me they would recommend to cut it to release the tendon but they all said it’s no guarantee it will work , therefore I do not think I’m going to risk it as will also weaken my hip so it’s PT and a walking cane for me , in time I hope it gets better , thank you all for reading this God Bless
I have similar pain mid-thigh in the front of my thigh. 3 years post-surgery!
Please please find another qualified orthopedic that cares about their patients and refuses to see them. This makes me so angry that a doctor would do this.
My Orignal left hip was replaced in 2012 and I have never been out of pain. Some days are okay and some days I wonder what I am truly doing here. I now know that the MRSA I contracted in 2012 is and has been on the hardware. I got very ill before CHRISTMAS and my leg swelled up like a watermelon. My surgeon cleaned it out and tightened the ball and within 2 I was even worse off. It took 2 more surgeries 3 weeks apart. The last surgery I came out with a Pickline and a wound Vac. They just removed both of those about 1 ago. My surgeon did his job and kept me alive and well and you need one that will do the same for you. Please ask The Mayo Clinic or do the research and find a good doctor. Also don’t forget to ask the difficult questions of that surgeon that is on your mind.
I use Magnesium Oil and massage it in really well and it does help. I put it on about 30 minutes before I go to bed and it does allow me to get 2 to 3 hours peaceful sleep.
Oh I must tell you about my failed back surgery. I was also fused but l5 to S1 and a rod. I never knew what was wrong with me. Was it my hip or was it my back.
My girlfriend found me an awesome pain doctor who knew one of the top 10 back surgeons. He did test after test and found that some of the screws were backing out from all the falls.
He explained to us that all that hardware needed to come out and it was not going back in. We just listened and was so afraid but him and the 2 main surgeons met with us a couple two or three times.
First they would open my back just so they could have a real visual on the hardware and make a new plan if needed. Next they would roll me on my right side and the other surgeon would take over. He moved 4 of my organs so they could reach in with a robotic are and loosen the hardware to make things go faster. Then back on your belly and all the hardware came out and adjustments were made to all the bone, disk and holes filled. The first part of the bands were looped on the right side and the I was rolled on my side again. They reached in with the robotic arm and finished bringing the bands over to the left side. The organs were placed back and the side was closed up and back to the belly we went. The back doctor then checked to make sure everything was secure and I needed 1 screw.
He closed me up in 10:15 minutes or so. It was a success and I am so happy. I feel part of the success is that the surgeon cam down to prop held my hand why we prayed. He knew this was big for his patients and he was a very compassionate caring doctor.
I am Blessed
That was 10 hours and 15 minutes.
What do you take for the pain?
I've got post hip replacement surgery pain also. 3 years and counting!!!
I take Hydrocodone 10-325 and Methacarbonal for a muscle relaxer, Lyrica and Duxlocetine.
I will tell you that I have no more back pain unless I am stupid but these days because of the hip I can’t do much.
