I have been on Lupron for 2 1/2 years after Focal laser Ablation. My stats were higher and also maintained the side effects using Marajuana oil every night. My prostate is half the size, sleep through the night, don’t wake for bathroom breaks. I need to exercise more but generally speaking I feel quite well and have the occasional drink. Don’t drink as much as I did when I was younger. I am 73 oh yes another thing I did was take metformin for my cancer. It was recommended by my US doctor. I live in Canada. I have personally witnessed the benefits of Metformin with a friend of mine who has lymphoma. Tumors reduced in size substantially on 6 weeks. It does not work for everyone however it’s a cheap staple diabetic drug that’s been around for years and it won’t hurt you. I think I bought a 3 month supply for less than $5.
I had 3 six month doses of Lupron beginning November 2018. I had the typical side effects, but in November 2019 they tested my bone density and determined that my bones had weakened enough that I should get an infusion of Reclast to strengthen my bones until my testosterone recovers enough to strengthen my bones. They tell me that for every month on Lupron, it will take the same number of months for your body recover. This fall I started to notice some tenderness in my breaststroke and formation of a mass in each. I had it checked out at Mayo and it was diagnosed as Gynecomestia, which can occur in older men and can be caused by an imbalance between testosterone and estrogen. My energy isn't back to pre Lupron, but could be from getting older.
In terms of proton beam therapy, I had pain during urination after my 5th dose. They gave me Flomax to deal with it. Up to 6 months later. I had a lot of urgency when I urinated. One person called it the 90 second rule. You have 90 seconds from the time you feel the urge. He even plotted out all the public restrooms in his area in case he needed them. The urgency has subsided now. However, this fall my stream decreased and it was harder to empty my bladder. Mayo staff said the walls of urethra could become less flexible. We've doubled the dose of Flomax and it's helped. Flomax can raise blood pressure and cause light headedness, but mine has held steady fortunately. My urinary issues may not be common, so you may not have any problem.
Although I have had some issues, my quality of life is still pretty good. I realize I had cancer that was successful treated and can live with side effects. The important consideration is what's best to treat the cancer. Having advanced prostrate cancer is much worse.
@waynen I had only 1 Lupron shot in March 2019... 2 months before staring Radiation.. I also had the problems with Urination and did take 2 Flowmax for awhile.. my urine stream is still weak .. I noticed that I lost a lot of body hair as well. I understand the 90 second rule of getting to the bathroom .. I normally sit down to urinate because often there are small bowel movements at the same time.. I do have the light headedness from the Flowmax .. but I have had that for a long time.. I had had the RotorRooter operation through the Prostate 12 years prior to the Cancer.. I also had the problem with one of my nipples.. my Primary Care Physician send me to have a Mammogram.. so now I can relate a little better to that indignity that women go through often.. Ken
How many cores were 3 plus 4? I think you come under Intermediate Favorable range but more info is needed. It's radiation or surgery to remove the prostate? With radiation you could think about cyberknife.

Yes, my wife and I have one more experience in common. She didn't seem too sympathetic, but she's the one who got me to check it out.
