Hi there- I don’t have Celiac, but I need to drastically limit gluten. This means that cross-contamination isn’t really an issue for me though.

The main Mayo cafeteria (which honestly, is more like a restaurant—it’s gorgeous and the food is really good! It’s just been renovated and they have one of those giant pizza ovens) has gluten free options. My go-to was grilled salmon and you can choose two sides. I always picked grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. There are also salads and soups that are probably gluten free.

If you want something more casual and takeaway, the Zest cafe had a separate section for gluten free baked goods and snacks that were clearly labeled. All the staff I talked to were knowledgeable and helpful. To my surprise, I found a gluten free coffee cake there that was very good.

And there’s a full-service Starbucks (egg bites? Protein boxes?).

I stayed in Jacksonville Beach, about 15 minutes away from the Mayo campus, and there are many restaurants. I went often to Taco Lu—they are very accommodating with gluten free. There’s a separate menu and they can usually adapt anything you want on their menu to be gluten free and they say so in the menu. They will even make gluten free tortilla chips for you if needed; I think the regular they serve for free are gluten free but prepared in the vicinity of flour so one time they offered to give me gluten free chips.

Shrimp Shack is really good and inexpensive but cross contamination may be an issue even though you can get everything grilled instead of fried.

There is also a Whole Foods with hot bar if all else fails? I do think you’d be alright on Mayo’s campus and honestly the food is really good and in a gorgeous setting.

(Food is part of my travel whether it’s for medical or other purposes if you can’t tell lol.)

Great information! Thank you so much! I was able to DL the Gluten Free For Me app and found some really promising restaurants!
