← Return to THR and open wound: when to walk out to the street without risk

I was outside walking slowly 2 days after surgery. But my husband accompanied the first couple days to be sure I was OK. After that, I stayed on my block and took it slow until I was steady.
Anecdote to share - 2 friends had hip surgery the same week in 2023 in our winter community. The first was out walking with his PT the 3rd day. The second had to be prodded to get up and walk after 2 weeks. Guess who had the more successful recovery?
If you are uncertain of his safety, can you or a neighbor walk with him? Is he using a cane or walker?

Thank you Sue for your prompt answer!
I think that your active friend who was walking on the 3d day recovered better. Well, my husband uses walker and it helps much. I was unsure about a possibility of wound being infected while he walk at the street. It is quite hot, about 26 grad.
But now I feel more secure!
Thanks.
