How fast can a T score go down in one year?
Just found out I have a negative 3T score in my spine and a -3.3 T score in one hip and -2.9 and the other, but need to have some dental work done and was told to wait to take Fosamax and that could take eight months for my mouth to heal worried that my scores will go down too low any advice?

Do you see an endocrinologist? Tymlos and Forteo are bone builders (Fosamax is an anti-resorptive) and they do not affect dental care. Many of us try to get authorization to start with a bone builder first and then follow up with Reclast or Fosamax (both bisphosphonates).

1 Reaction@amillisp yes absolutely, in my experience it is much better to see an endocrinologist who specializes in osteoporosis before you do anything. You have time. It may be possible to do Tymlos or Forteo sooner and those would be better to do before Fosamax anyway, if your insurance can authorize it. An endocrinologist could work on authorizing it with insurance. There are also patient assistance programs with the companies (Radius for Tymlos, Lily for Forteo).

A caveat about looking to the dr who prescribes Fosamax, I would rely on that only if they are a specialist.
The first PCP I talked to just after receiving a DEXA report with osteoporosis indicated (also showing a broken hip!), she pooh poohed going to a specialist, saying she thought I should just take Fosamax saying " if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it is a duck." (I went to an endocrinologist and started Tymlos.)
When I returned home (after a temporary stay elsewhere) and
needed help refilling Tymlos while I got an appt with a local endo, my PCP helped as an accommodation, but made it clear this was temporary I had to get a specialist.
