Question on DCIS outcome

Currently having first mammogram after lumpectomy in September. They've called me back several times for more pictures - now calcifications in other breast.
Going in to see doctor next.
Wish I'd had a DMX instead of lumpectomy and not have the stress and worry what will they find next?

What was your cancer diagnosis for the lumpectomy?

I'm at the beginning of it all 4cm dcis right breast hormone neg due,small breasts large area,oozing nipple,anyone else? Having mastectomy and pos mastectomy.My question is I'm scared that it's invasive already? Anyone had this when surgery done?

Take each day as it comes . Don’t worry about the maybes . Usually your biopsy will determine if it’s invasive it yours is DCIs and that’s a better place to be . In some instances they may see invasion post surgery but don’t worry yourself about what may not be . Just focus on getting your surgery done and taking care of yourself . The rest will fall into place.

Yes, this happened to me. I was originally diagnosed with dcis in the left breast from a biopsy that was done after suspicious microcalcifications on a mammogram. When I had the lumpectomy a 4mm IDC was present. Margins weren’t clear and I needed a 2nd surgery. Looking back, I wish that I would have had an MRI after the diagnosis to give insight on the extend of the cancer but no one recommended one and I didn’t know enough then to ask for it. If you haven’t had an MRI or ultrasound I would ask. Even though the IDC was small, it changed my whole treatment plan because it was HER2+. I wish you a good outcome with your surgery.

I was diagnosed with DCIS stage 0 grade 2 ER+ and will have my lumpectomy next Thursday July 11.

It’s exhausting thinking of all the “what-ifs”, and trying hard not to overthink and just let the process be.

Hoping you get through your journey even though you cannot see the whole picture, just like what the others say take it day by day. I know it’s hard because I am on the same boat, but we just next to stop and breathe a little. Praying for you warrior!

Last October 2023 I had DCIS in my right breast ….my Mother 25 years ago (since past away) had the exact same cancer at my age right breast removed …. 16 lymph nodes removed
5 years later DCIS in the left breast
Left breast removed !
Based on this history which was awful for my Mother , if I knew then what I know now I would have pushed for double mastectomy for my Mother !! Also, her sister had 1 breast removed !!!
I had a double mastectomy no replacements and I did not need any additional treatments !
I am cancer free at this time!
My goal is to live life the best I can
In peace!!
While this was a radical move I find it
Life giving and freedom from worry and looking over my shoulder!
Each person has their own reason for their choices!!

Peace for you all. It's easier once all of the data is in and a plan is set. So much advancement over the years in diagnosis, treatment and we have options. Open communication with health providers is so helpful. You must be able to trust them and ask all of your questions. If you're not satisfied with the interaction and answers, get a second opinion. This is important...to be your own best advocate gives you some feelings of control in a situation where your world is spinning and fear easily surfaces. Someone wrote here earlier not to "get ahead of your diagnosis". I remember this wisdom, so repeat it now for others. Breathe.
