Just started insulin injections, but they don't seem to work

After 18 units in a single day with basically no food and my levels barely dropped. Next day tried it with food same thing barley dropped. Cant get below the 300 mark...Any suggestions? This is my first time with insulin injections

The body responds to the rise in blood glucose levels after meals by secreting insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin lowers blood glucose by increasing the rate that glucose is taken up by cells throughout the body. Declines in blood glucose can cause the release of adrenalin and cortisol by the adrenal glands. If there is a chronic imbalance in blood sugar, it can cause a state of insulin resistance. This is when insulin is being constantly released, but it’s just not able to do its job.

It is important to avoid foods that cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. Refined sugars, white flour products, junk foods and other sources of simple sugars are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, causing a rapid rise in blood sugar and severely stressing blood sugar control.

This will take the guess work out of your process & eliminate unnecessary use of medication that will not be effective therapies other than causing organ damage.

The injector has Humalog Kwiki Pen
Insulin Lispro. As you can see I am very new to this. I just started last week with the injections along with taking Metformin ER. I was talking with a couple of co-workers who are type 1's and they told me it took a few different types of insulin before they found one that worked for them. Just feel terrible and looking for answers.

Insulin Lispro. As you can see I am very new to this. I just started last week with the injections along with taking Metformin ER. This is my last attempt before I go see a specialist. They have put me on Invokana as well as Metformin. We will see.

Hi rlmac27!! So happy you decided to join Connect. Sorry I did not see your post till today!! 🙁 Diabetes is so tough and ever changing. So looks like a new diagnosis for you. May I suggest the attached link for some great information as well as a close follow up with your dietition. If you have not seen one yet I highly encourage it. I am not diabetic but our patients are all seen by our dietitian. Diabetes cannot be treated just buy one or the other you really have to have collaborated approach in treating it. I do not know the original problem and did not see original posting. Have an endocrinologist check levels of Insulin in blood and leptin too.

Today's New York Times Science section has an important article on Fay Metabolism,Leptin and other chemicals affecting Diabetes type 2, Fat, and Obesity. Two new chemicals were found to affect fat storage ,etc.

Also, Invokana may not be advisable if your kidney function is low, as mine is (23).
