PN and the problem of a callus on sole of foot.

Posted by kim2 @kim2, Jul 1, 2023

I have dealt with PN for 3 years or so, but although the PN comes with its own problems; numbness, tingling, and balance, the biggest problem I experience is a callus on the sole of my foot which gives me agony. I see a podiatrist about every two months and in between I see a pedicurist. However, their help is only temporary and the callus never disappears. The podiatrist tells me that the soles of my feet are worn out!
Is there anybody with the same problem or have had this experience?
Thank you.

Hi Zebra
As promised, I am keeping you posted about coping with calluses.
I recently had a problem with my callus so had to see the podiatrist. He came up with a possible remedy which may help you too.
1. Cut a hole in the insole of your shoe where the callus fits.
2. Cut and cover the hole with moleskin. Be generous with
The moleskin.
3. On the other side of the insole, cut a u-shape piece of
Moleskin and attach it. This side of the insole looks like a
Fat U with a spot in the middle of the small U.

You can get a good picture of this U piece by going to the website and entering “Callus pads”.

I have had a callous on my right foot for many months now.
I’ve been going to the wound center with no improvement.
I keep it covered with a cushioned bandaid, but it just doesn’t get better.
The middle bleeds when I walk on it, so I’ve been wearing callous pads.

This has been an ongoing issue for last 5 or more months.

I have chronic foot pain from a bad bunionectomy, but I also have pain on the pad of my foot under the small toe area. It seems there is a callus there, which my podiatrist wants me to quit trimming. He says it will just grow back more. Not sure if it is the callus or one of the foot bones hitting the pad, but I have the same problem with this area causing great pain. I read in another article, someone had botox injected into their foot to make the area more solid and less painful. Sounds good, but I hesitate that such an action might make the nerve pain even worse. I use marijuana gel / and gummies to get some relief
At night so I can sleep.

I feel your pain! Last year my Podiatrist came up with a possible remedy and I must say it has given me much relief, so far. However, I still have to see him every two months, and in between, my pedicurist clears the hard skin.

Solution…with the insole of the shoe, punch or cut a hole over the size of the callus and cover both sides of the insole with moleskin. However, with the back side of the insole, you cut the moleskin into a U shape (best I can describe it…the shape of a baby’s bib). I hope the foregoing is clear to you. It’s worth a try.

Interesting that your doctor does not want you to shave away the dry hard skin because of build-up. My doctor clears a the whole area. Wonder which one of them is right!
